Our Story

Created in 2009, Boreal Forest Teas is an award-winning, nature-inspired herbal tea company based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. We hand-craft our teas using premium quality, organic cultivated herbs and sustainably wild-harvested boreal plants and berries. We support Non-Timber Forest Product (NTFP) initiatives, organic growers and conservation efforts in Canada’s boreal forest. Our teas combine only the finest ingredients nature has to offer.

Our teas are packaged loose, rather than in tea bags, which helps to preserve the integrity of the plants’ nutritional and medicinal properties, and reduces unnecessary waste.

Boreal Forest Teas are handcrafted in small batches to ensure the highest quality. Our vision is to create a line of teas that are good for both people and the planet.

Boreal Forest Teas is the recipient of a Premier's Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence.

We've stayed small and true to our vision of creating a line of teas that are good for people and the planet! We are proud to give back to conservation efforts that support our vision.

Boreal Forest Teas celebrates 10 years in 2019! We hope you enjoy Boreal Forest Teas as much as we do!

About the Owner

I was born and raised in Timmins, a small community located in northeastern Ontario’s boreal forest region. Spending time at my father's remote, water-access camp and exploring the surrounding forest and wildlife informed my connection with the natural world and taught me the critical importance of respect.

After studying biology and environmental protection at the University of Guelph, my love of wild spaces & adventure pulled me further north, where I spent a decade working as a forest ecologist, wildlife researcher and environmental educator in the boreal forest regions of northern British Columbia and the Yukon, and subsequently in remote Indigenous communities in the western Arctic region of the Northwest Territories.

I moved to Thunder Bay in 2009 with my young family to pursue a Masters of Environmental Studies Degree in Northern Environments & Cultures/Environmental Studies at Lakehead University, and to be closer to family and the landscape of my youth. I've also studied ethnobotany and am a Chartered Herbalist through Dominion Herbal College in Vancouver.

Boreal Forest Teas combines my passion for boreal forest ecology & conservation, wild foods & medicines, organic agriculture and local food systems. At every opportunity, my husband, children and I seek out opportunities to explore, hike, paddle, ski, adventure, and be inspired by the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield...and I'm forever communing with the plants along the way!
